Dear Neighbors,

The Trump administration’s chaos, corruption, and cruelty are without precedent in American history.  Its disrespect for the rule of law and for human rights is shocking.  Here in Minnesota ICE agents’ killing of Renee Good and Alex Pretti were horrifying.  Kidnappings continue without restraint, and whole neighborhoods are being terrorized.

Almost without exception Republicans in the US Congress and Senate and in the Minnesota legislature are fine with this kind of extremism.  We have to push back hard to defend constitutional government, the rule of law, and human rights.

The Minnesota legislature is on a razor’s edge.  The House is evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans.  In the Senate Democrats have only a one-vote majority.  Republicans have made clear that they aim to take both the House and Senate this year, so that they can roll back the Democrats’ many achievements of previous years.

We can’t let that happen!  Keeping Senate District 50 Democratic is critical.

I served Bloomington and Edina in the statehouse for eight years. I worked hard to find practical solutions to real problems.  Often that means trying to bring people together from both sides of the aisle to find common ground.  These days the Republican Party pushes extremist ideas, but if we continue to run strong campaigns and bring the voters with us to the polls, we can break through this gridlock and find solutions that speak to all Minnesotans.

In my eight years in the legislature I proudly cast key votes and carried bills that dramatically improved the quality of life for Minnesotans—and, more importantly, focused on building a more just society for all. These wins included marriage equality, workplace protections and fair pay for women, domestic violence protections, optional all-day kindergarten, early childhood scholarships, a quality rating system for pre-schools, clean energy and environmental protection, fraud protection for seniors and vulnerable adults, and raising the minimum wage.

To be an effective senator, I need your help.  Please get in touch with any concerns or suggestions you have.  If you can support my election campaign in any way, I’d be deeply grateful.
